The barbershop, “Mohamed & Ramy,” located in Sheikh Zayed, west Cairo, Egypt, was designed and executed by the Egyptian practice MAD Studio. The space Reflects an elegant, modern design with an industrial yet luxurious atmosphere. The color palette predominantly features dark tones such as deep brown, black, and warm wood textures, which create a sense of depth and intimacy. Soft, ambient lighting highlights these rich hues, especially around the shelving and mirrors, lending the space a warm, inviting glow.

Custom made leather seating dominates both the barber stations and the lounge area, where a black leather couch offers a refined touch. The earthy tones of the leather complement the sleek, modern lines of the furniture. Meanwhile, the polished concrete floors contribute to the industrial aesthetic while maintaining a high-end finish.

One of the most captivating elements of the design is the ceiling installation, where decorative barber tools and scissors are suspended above the black couch. This installation is treated as an art piece, transforming everyday barber instruments into a dynamic and sculptural display.

The tools, hung delicately by thin wires, appear to float midair, evoking a sense of movement and precision akin to the craft of barbering. The strategic lighting accentuates this feature, casting intricate shadows that further elevate its presence as a centerpiece within the shop.

Adding an organic contrast to the otherwise sleek interior is a tall green cactus placed behind the black leather couch. This natural element introduces a refreshing touch of nature, softening the sharp, industrial lines of the design and bringing a sense of calm to the lounge area.

Adjacent to the couch, a small bar adds another layer of sophistication to the waiting area. The bar is framed with warm wood paneling and features elegant shelving, subtly illuminated to showcase glassware and bottles. With its sleek black leather bar stools, the setup invites clients to relax in style while they wait, offering a touch of hospitality within the grooming space. It also reinforces the luxurious experience that the shop aims to provide, turning a routine haircut into a refined social occasion.

The staircase that leads upwards is made of warm wood and set against a backdrop of softly illuminated shelves. These shelves, which showcase books and decorative elements, enhance the room’s visual flow, integrating utility and aesthetic appeal seamlessly. The combination of materials like leather, wood, and metal achieves a perfect balance between modernity and tradition, creating a space that feels both contemporary and timeless.
