In contemporary retail design, architecture has become an essential part of the customer experience. Beyond displaying products, today’s commercial interiors are expected to communicate identity, create memorable journeys, and foster emotional connections through space. Every architectural gesture—from material selection to lighting design—contributes to shaping how visitors perceive and navigate the environment.

The COLORS beauty retail concept exemplifies this approach, where architecture, interior design, branding, and lighting merge to create an immersive destination that is both visually dynamic and highly functional.
A Spatial Identity Built on Contrast
The store’s identity is established through a bold dialogue between vivid color and restrained neutrality.

Glossy magenta architectural volumes rise throughout the interior, acting as vertical landmarks that define circulation while reinforcing the brand’s energetic personality. These sculptural elements immediately capture attention, creating moments of visual rhythm that organize the retail environment.
Balancing these expressive interventions is a calm architectural backdrop of white display systems, soft neutral walls, and light ceramic flooring. This restrained palette allows products to remain the focal point while providing visual clarity across the space.
Dark structural elements—including black display fixtures, ceiling grids, and lighting systems—introduce contrast and architectural precision, giving the interior depth without compromising its openness.
Materiality as an Architectural Language

Material selection plays a fundamental role in defining the character of the project.
Reflective acrylic cladding wraps the signature vertical elements, amplifying natural and artificial light while visually extending the height of the interior. Matte powder-coated steel introduces a tactile counterpoint, bringing durability and refinement to the display systems without adding unnecessary visual weight.
Minimal shelving systems composed of glass and composite materials maintain a clean architectural expression, allowing cosmetics and fragrances to become integrated components of the overall spatial composition rather than isolated retail products.
Together, these materials create an environment that feels contemporary, vibrant, and carefully considered.
Lighting as a Design Medium
Lighting is one of the project’s defining architectural elements, shaping both atmosphere and spatial perception.

The lighting design, executed by Delta Lighting Middle East, goes beyond providing illumination to become an integral component of the architecture itself.
Suspended above the central circulation path, a custom curved LED canopy acts as the visual spine of the store. Its continuous illuminated form guides visitors naturally through the space while introducing movement and a sense of rhythm overhead.
Throughout the interior, a coordinated arrangement of surface-mounted downlights and adjustable track luminaires delivers balanced ambient illumination, ensuring comfortable visual conditions while preserving the architectural character of the exposed ceiling.

Concealed linear lighting integrated alongside the vertical architectural elements reinforces the store’s generous proportions, washing the glossy surfaces with soft light that enhances depth and material richness.
At the merchandising level, high-CRI integrated shelf lighting accurately renders the colors and textures of cosmetics and fragrances, ensuring products are experienced exactly as intended. Illuminated brand signage and custom neon installations further contribute to the visual hierarchy, creating memorable focal points without overwhelming the architecture.
A Retail Environment Designed as an Experience
Rather than functioning as a conventional cosmetics store, COLORS presents retail as a carefully choreographed architectural experience. Color, materiality, lighting, and spatial organization work together to establish a clear identity while encouraging exploration and discovery.

The project demonstrates how thoughtful interior architecture can transform commercial environments into immersive destinations—spaces where every detail contributes to the experience of the visitor and every design decision reinforces the brand’s narrative.
Documenting Contemporary Commercial Architecture

Projects such as COLORS highlight the growing importance of architectural photography in communicating the quality and intent of contemporary commercial design. Capturing these environments requires more than documenting a finished interior; it involves revealing the relationship between space, materials, light, and human experience.
At GS Studio by Georges & Samuel Mohsen, we specialize in architecture, interior, and commercial photography throughout Egypt and the Middle East, working closely with architects, interior designers, developers, and lighting designers to produce imagery that faithfully represents both the design vision and the atmosphere of each project. Through careful composition, precise control of perspective, and an understanding of architectural light, our photographs aim to communicate not only how a space looks, but how it is experienced.
